Nothing beats the joy of receiving your e-commerce package at your doorstep. But we never acknowledge the delivery boxes that travel through multiple logistic loops and hurdles, ensuring your product arrives unscathed. None of us imagined ecommerce would give cardboard boxes a whole new purpose.
They are the unsung heroes of modern convenience and the backbone of our online shopping addiction for trendy clothing, kitchen paraphernalia, life saving medicines, or even edible glitter (yes, it's hard to believe we have reached here). These ‘corrugated sheets on steroids’ magically appear at the customer’s doorsteps, sparing them the horror of leaving the house, or heaven forbid, using their limbs to visit the neighbourhood store. But with changing times brands are creating unique delivery boxes in a bid to offer an elevated customer experience. In fact, custom packaging adds value and creates a great first impression, if designed well. Let’s look at some delivery boxes that pack a punch (and so many other things)!
Ikea
The brand known for revolutionising packaging with the use of ‘flat packs’ have mastered the art of delivering products in one-piece, anywhere in the world. “If you shop online, the only meeting point you as a customer have is IKEA.com and the box that arrives at your front door", says Erik Olsen, Packaging and & Identification manager at IKEA.
The Swedish retailer is known for their signature delivery boxes. It’s astounding that the packaging design is integrated in the product design process right from the start. Now that’s clever engineering!
Chaayos
Elephant Design decided to showcase Chaayos as a ‘Confidently Desi’ tea cafe with bold, vibrant colours that hinted at freshness and happiness. But what really got our attention is the take away pack, which is not talked about by many. Since Chai (tea) is best enjoyed with others, especially during work breaks, this handy pack is the apt replacement of the traditional tea kettle.
This green delivery pack is special as it was promoted during Covid-19 lockdown as part of their #SafeTEAPromise campaign.
March Tee
Pune based clothing brand March Tee offers high quality t-shirts in high quality delivery boxes. These sleek, rectangular cardboard boxes let the product take centre stage. A great example of minimalist design theory in use. One customer review mentioned “It almost feels like I’ve got an Apple device.”
These brands show how caring for the entire customer experience matters. Good delivery box design validates a customer’s investment in a product. In fact, many smaller Indian brands pour extra effort and care into every detail, while big brands can have impersonal packaging options.
